Joyce Combs is an impressionist/expressionist and has been painting seriously for more than ten years. Her colorist paintings are featured in public and private collections, and are consistent winners of many art shows. She studied with the late Alvis Ballew counting herself lucky to have done so. She learnt a lot from Alvis and his influence is still seen in her art. Joyce says that the Lord has provided many opportunities for her to use the gift He has given her. She continues to paint the beauty of God’s world because she believes the Lord expressed His love to humans through the beauty of nature. Joyce is active and lives in Texas, Oklahoma. She’s is known for abstract; non-objective, botanical painting, hand-made paper and monoprints. She has managed to create a very special situation in the area of mono prints, handmade paper and oils.
The artist is fascinated with the beauty of the aging process and recreates this quality in her art. Her latest endeavor is in the mono printing process, a process that is innovative and unique. Joyce’s art is often inspired by architectural detail or ancient architecture. The materials she uses to produce the surfaces in her work include oil washes, enamels, collage, inks, acrylics, oil pastels, prisma color, and charcoal. She hand rubs, waxes, stains, varnishes and scrapes to develop a unique richness of textures and color, sometimes resembling the quality of old walls. Her art are easily recognizable because of the unique style that she uses to create them.
