Marion McConaghie is a contemporary artist who creates intriguing and beautiful imagery of insects, butterflies and animals. In her limited edition prints, she often explores pattern and natural history with a traditional twist, but without losing a contemporary and fresh feel. She grew up in rural Ireland and loved art from a young age. Marion attended Nottingham University were she studied Foundation Art in the early 1990's. She took a few years out living in London, and then decided to move to Brighton where she studied Fine Art Painting at Brighton University. The artist spent the first year of her degree painting. However, she wanted to explore other areas so she moved into video, photography, and installation art. Her education led on to working as a graphic designer for web and print in order to earn a living.
With her years of working in graphic design, she feels she fuses together that experience with fine art to produce high quality works that she’s known for. Marion’s early works were taken on by a greetings card licensing agent, whom she supplied with images for a few years. In 2012, she launched her range of fine art limited edition prints and mixed media paintings. Marion now works from her home studio in Lewes, Sussex. She’s got a cozy workspace in her utility room with all her art materials and a Mac. She says it's warm and fairly light and she’ll often get a visit from one of her cats that want to come and sit on the warm place over the radiator on her work table.
