Hugh Rose is a Photographer and Naturalist who was drawn to the north as soon as he was old enough to travel. Rose was born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, but moved south as a young child to New England with his parents. This is where he grew up exploring the hills of southern Canada and New England. College took him to the Vermont’s Green Mountains where he studied geology and also began to hone his passion for photography, and everything outdoors. After graduation, he took up a career in Geology – a career that lasted for 10 years. After this, he ended up in Alaska working as a guide and naturalist and also pursued freelance photography. The wildlife and vast landscapes of the Polar Regions have been both his subjects and passion for the last 20 years. That’s not all, there are also other places in the world that have intrigued him as well, and he continues to interpret and explore the world's natural beauty through his photography and by guiding natural history/ photo tours from his home in Fairbanks, Alaska.
His photography business includes stock and freelance photography as well as Fine Alaskan Photographic prints. He’s lived in northern climates most of his life, and as a photographer, he’s spent a significant part of his career photographing in the arctic. The photographer feels that this area offers some of the most inconceivable raw beauty in North America. His photographs have appeared in Northern Light Calendars, Sierra Club Calendars, National Wildlife Federation, National Trade Magazines, Denali Wilderness Calendars, Alaska Airlines Magazine, Frommer's Travel Guide, BBC, Outdoor Life, and numerous other publications.
