Connie Tunick is a graduate of Northwestern University. She received an MA from California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks, California. Connie grew up in Rock Island, Illinois. She is a children's art specialist. The artistic sense of play and experimental quality that can be found in children's art is fundamental to her current work as a full time artist. She uses art as a visual language to express the excitement that she finds in the world. Her goal is to have a conversation with the viewer and to communicate what is behind the art. When an artist really speaks to the viewer, it is the mental part of the creative process coming through. To Connie, having to explain her work means that the art on its own is not successful. When deciding what to paint, the subject must evoke a certain passion. Symbols that represent the relationships and common threads of life are prevalent in her art.

By using familiar imagery such as a key or a clock or a flower, she can connect with the viewer and “speak” a common visual language. She is drawn to the shapes and repetitive patterns found in nature. Pasting down collage, Adding and subtracting paint, adding heavy texture, painting over everything with brayers and brushes, stamping, etc are some of the techniques that she uses to make her artwork create and order from chaos. To her the process is as important as the finished product. Her paintings have many layers buried beneath the surface. Her art is in numerous private and corporate collections worldwide.
