Maxine Johnston is an artist of the 20/21st century. She was born and raised in Idaho but later moved to Arizona where she fell in love with the beauty of the southwest, its history and Indian Culture. She’s known for mural, still life and for illustration. Her paintings evolved from her deep love and regard for natures treasure’s, the landscape, and beautiful objects, and from her desire to represent them so that others can taste and enjoy the beauty of these manmade and natural things that surround us. Maxine is Past President of the Scottsdale Artists League. She’s a Signature Member of Oil Painters of America, a Design Affiliate of the American Society of Interior Designers, and a member of Arizona Artists Guild. In her paintings she challenges herself by creating light and allowing it to play its magic as it creates patterns, moves over form, creates movement and excitement, all of which helps in drawing the viewer into the painting. She has been instructor at the Scottsdale Artists School for over 20 years.
Maxine is one of the founding Directors of the Scottsdale Artists' School, served as a board member for 26 years and as President of the Board of Trustees for 3 Years, and is currently an Honorary Board Member. Her work has appeared in greeting cards, commercially published prints, needle work designs and collector plates. She has worked for many years with architects, designers, individuals and corporations creating art for specific environments. She has exhibited in an international art show for the Art in Embassies Program, U.S. Embassy in Switzerland, and in many other places.
